English
Writing
Our writing as always will concentrate on using more challenging vocabulary, understanding the key structures of the different genres of writing, including stories and reports and instructions. We will also keep working on our sentence structure, making sure we are using a variety of grammar skills.

Grammar & Handwriting
There will be regular timetabled sessions for all children. We will look at the key skills required for each year group and we will be concentrating on our handwriting and presentation skills.
Class reading –
We have “Reading Pleasure” sessions scheduled into our timetable – time for us, as a class to enjoy sharing and listening to a story together. We also have Guided Reading sessions, where we look at extracts from texts to help develop our reading fluency, comprehension and inference skills.
Maths
In Maths we will continue to develop our key skills, problem solving and reasoning.
Year 2 – We will start the first half term with place value using statistics, moving onto addition and subtraction. Measurement will continue to develop our understanding of capacity, volume and temperature. We will also find out more about fractions. position, direction and time. In geometry we will investigate 2D and 3D shape further. In the second half term we will practise addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. In statistics we will include subtraction (finding the difference). In measurement we will look at length, mass/weight.
Year 3 – In the first half term we will learn about addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also learn about decimal places in numbers. We will look at 2-D shape 3D shape again. In the second half term we will investigate place value, calculation, fractions, statistics and time.

Religious Education
Our first topic will be Eastertide. We will develop our knowledge and understanding that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday and is present with us today. We will learn about the appearance of Jesus to his disciples and his Ascension to heaven. We will learn about Pentecost and the symbols of the Holy Spirit. Our second topic is The First Christians. We will develop our knowledge and understanding of the beginning of the Church. We will learn that the Holy Spirit enabled the disciples to spread the Good News and about what the early Christian community was like. The children will reflect on how they can spread the Good News.
History
Our topic will be “Anglo Saxons, Scots and Picts”. We will find out about Anglo-Saxon migration and who the Picts and Scots were and where they lived. We will explore Anglo-Saxon society and culture and learn about paganism and the spread of Christianity in Britain.

Geography
Going outside to learn is the focus for our geography work. Our fieldwork will be within the school grounds using the familiar area to develop compass, map, co-ordinates skills.
PSHE
The topic for summer 2 is risks and hazards - safety in the local area and unfamiliar places.
Science
We will begin the term with the topic Light. We will learn about light, shadows, day and night including how we need light in order to see, we will learn about how light travels, what shadows are, how the length and position of a shadow changes.
Our second topic is Plants. In this topic we will identify the functions of the different parts of a plant, find out what plants need in order to grow well and explore pollination, seed formation & seed dispersal.
Art
“Ancient Scrolls” We will investigate the style, pattern and characteristics of Ancient Egyptian art. We will apply design skills to make a new material. We will then apply drawing and painting skills in the style of an Egyptian art.
Design and Technology
Our topic is Food. We will look at foods and identify food groups. We will explore what makes a balanced meal and select combinations of ingredients to make a healthy wrap. We will design, create, enjoy!
P.E.
We will aim to get outside as much as possible this term. We will be practising our Athletics, including running and jumping. We will also be working on our bowling, fielding and batting skills.
Music
Our first unit ‘Just 3 Notes’ shows how to make simple yet effective music using just a handful of elements, how to read and understand notation to capture compositions, and how to structure ideas. Then we move on to ‘Samba’- call-and-response through word rhythms, and body and vocal percussion. We learn about samba and carnival.
French
Our topic is “Circle of Life”. The children will use their dictionary skills to develop their animal vocabulary and habitat names.

Homework
Maths homework will “go live” every Friday, please try to complete by the following Tuesday. Children will bring home weekly spellings. Please also try to read daily with your child, signing their Reading Record. Read theory is also available to practise reading comprehension. All logins are in your child’s reading record book.
Twinning with St. Philips
Class 3 have made some special bunting to send to a school we are twinning with St. Philips.
. We hope they like it and learn a little more about Class 3's favourite things.
