Computing

The Intent, Implementation and Impact of our Curriculum

Our Computing Subject Lead is Mrs Ellison

Intent

Computing at St. Joseph’s will equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Children will develop their computing skills in order to use technology safely and effectively. With a core curriculum of computer science children will learn how to: apply principles of logic, algorithms and data representation; analyse and write their own computer programs; evaluate and apply information technology; and be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of computers.

Children will learn to become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

Implementation

Computing lessons will be carried out with a variety of applications and programs, including purple mash, scratch, turtle logo and pivot. Teachers will plan computing units for progression and depth of skills. Children will be challenged within lessons to apply their learning to real life situations.

Impact

Children at St. Josephs will use computers safely, effectively and creatively. Children will gain independence in their computing skills to be able to use a range of programs and software.
