Remembrance Event
Our Head boy and girl and deputy head boy represented school at the Remembrance service in Barnoldswick on 10th November. They laid the school wreath and showed great respect.
Ks 1 The Nativity
Key stage 1 children presented 'The Nativity 'as their annual Christmas production. They gave an amazing performance with superb singing, marvellous narration and fantastic acting.
Debt Aware
Year 5 and 6 worked with the Debt Aware team to find out money management. Year 5 worked with Mr Souter to understand the difference between needs and wants. Year 6s looked at salaries of different jobs, income tax and deliberated about what jobs they might do in the future.
Playground leaders
Year 6s recapped their knowledge and skills of how to be an effective Playground Leader today with @pendlesgo
They thought about what games they would like to play with the younger ones and how to adapt them to suit the needs of their players.
Mr Peek's Poetry Place
We had a wonderful poetry day with Mr Peek's Poetry Place https://mrpeekspoetryplace.co.uk. The children listened to a range of poems and had fun rhyming before writing their own poems. Some were lucky to purchase his book which he personally signed too!
A Christmas Carol
The children in KS2 were entertained by Manchester Actors Company, with their production of 'A Christmas Carol'. The children were captivated by the story and the wonderful acting. The children finished the afternoon with a Q and A with the actors.
Dogs Trust
The Dogs Trust Education Programme came into school to share an exciting, interactive dog welfare workshop with Class 2-5, based on Safe Behaviour Around Dogs. Children met Dougie the dog and learnt about how to look after their dog over Christmas time.
Anne Frank Trust
Class 5 worked with the Anne Frank Trust, They made timelines of her life and learnt about her qualities. They have learnt about equality, discrimination, prejudice and stereotypes, comparing Anne's life to the modern world. They were highly engaged and made great contributions during the sessions. They learnt about different types of discrimination and what they could do in the future to influence change, for an equal world. We are very grateful to have had this opportunity.
S.T.E.M. week
The school held an amazing STEM week and the children took part in lots of activities based on Science , Technology, Engineering and Maths.
STEM week - Maths Scavenger hunts
Class 5 ran Maths Scavenger hunts for other classes, where they had to find the answers to some tricky maths problems.
STEM week - Science Fair
Class 5 hosted a Science Fair where they demonstrated a variety of Science based experiments and activities.
STEM week - Visit to West Craven High School
Children in Class 4 and Class 5 had the opportunity to visit West Craven High School, where they took part in science activities. They learned how to use a bunsen burner safely and took part in an experiment to identify different chemical solutions based on the colour flame they produced.
STEM week - Class 2 programming
As part of the STEM week activities Class 2 investigated programming the BEEBOT robots.
STEM week - Class 4 comparing measurement
Class 4 took measurements of children who were the same age and compared them to see the differences in arm and leg length and head size.
STEM week - Class 3 Worm hunt
Class 3 hunted for worms in our school grounds and found out how they are beneficial for the soil.
STEM week - Class 1 planting sunflowers
Class 1 planted sunflowers ;investigated the different parts of the plant and what plants need to grow. The whole school also planted sunflowers and held a competition to see whose would grow the tallest.
STEM week - Technology
All of our classes focused on algorithms and coding during STEM week. Class 1 learnt about the importance of clear instructions by giving verbal instructions to a robot on how to make a jam sandwich! It didn’t always go to plan at first! Class 2 used their knowledge of direction and position from Maths to program robots to move in the right directions. Class 3 used the laptops to program using Turtle. Class 4 were programming using Scratch to create their own animations. Class 5 had the challenge of creating a more complex game using Scratch.
STEM week - Engineering
Class 1 completed lots of junk modelling activities and created their own minibeasts. Class 2 used wheels and axles in designing and making their own moving vehicle. Class 3 finished their
cave art. They made their own paint with natural products. Class 4 have been learning to use a junior hacksaw and using cams to design their own moving mechanical toy. Class 5 designed their own spaghetti bolognese after tasting a few different versions.
Right Start Road Safety Training
Congratulations to these children in Ks1 for passing their Right Start pedestrian training. Let's keep safe.
Lunchtime Library
We opened our library at lunchtime for a reading club. It was so good to see so many children visit and enjoy the books.
Planting our donated flowers
We received a donation of primroses from KeelhamFarmShop and the children were so eager to get planting!
World Book Day
The school celebrated World Book Day starting with an assembly where the children had the opportunity to show everyone their amazing character costumes.
Class 1 - book day
Class 1 explored their favourite books and then visited Barnoldswick Library to listen to some fantastic stories and share books with some of their parents and grandparents.
Class 2 - book day
Class 2 took part in lots of 'booky' activities and had fun sharing their book characters with the rest of the class.
Class 5 -book day
As part of their World Book day activities, Class 5 had a book swap and then took their new books to have a relaxing read in the hall.
Book Day with Burnley Youth Theatre
Classes 5, 4 and 3 joined other schools in the area to listen to a live stream of the story of Louis Braille, who created an alphabet for the blind which allowed them to access the world of books.
Life Education Caravan
The school had another visit from Harold the Giraffe and the Life Education Caravan, where the children had the opportunity to learn how to keep their bodies and minds healthy.
Bikeability
Pupils in Class 4 and Class 5 had the opportunity to take part in Bikeability training, where they improved their cycling and road safety skills.
Lancashire Music Service
Some of our pupils who play piano, keyboard or clarinet have received certificates from Lancashire Music Service
Mayor's visit
We had a visit from the Mayor of Pendle, the children had the opportunity to learn about his role and the importance and history of the mayoral regalia.
Stardome
We had another visit from the incredible Stardome, where the children learned about the stars and constellations.
Capenwray
Students from Capenwray presented an assembly on Friendship.
The Bethany Choir
The school was visited by the Bethany Choir. They performed a selection of songs and told us about their lives in Africa.
