Music

The Music Curriculum at St Joseph’s is planned in line with the ‘New Model Music Curriculum’ to ensure progression through school in all aspects of the subject. We endeavour to give children as much enrichment as we can by organising live performances such as the Barnoldswick Brass Band and MoreMusic’s Djembe Drumming Workshop. Children enjoy engaging weekly Music lessons in addition to the following musical opportunities:

We offer chargeable individual or group instrument lessons via the Lancashire Music Service. We currently have children learning guitar and keyboard. All KS2 children learn the recorder as part of the Music curriculum.

Our school choir runs throughout the year. Christmas Choir is particularly popular as children learn a variety of traditional carols and fun songs to perform at the Parish Fair and in local care homes in December. Our Spring Choir focusses on preparations for the Lancashire Big Sing- a massed choir event where children experience the joy of singing in a huge venue with hundreds of other local school children.

Musical performance is an important part of our Music offer- developing confidence and pride in musical achievement and inspiring others. Every child is given the opportunity to perform in both our EYFS/KS1 Nativity and our KS2 production. Our instrumentalists are given opportunities to show off their skills in assemblies during the year.
