School Sports

At St Joseph’s, sport and physical activity is an incredibly important part of school life. We give children the opportunity to try many different sports and activities, both as part of their curriculum (during PE lessons) and through extracurricular opportunities.

We are very fortunate at St. Joseph’s to have fantastic grounds and facilities. We have a large field, a playground, running track, clamberstack, trim trail and permanent exercise equipment. We are always seeking to develop and improve our facilities, with much of the premium funding being spent on better equipment for our children. All children at our school are aiming to complete active minutes within the day.

We will be having a number of intra-house competitions running throughout the school year, which will enable children to experience and compete in different sports and activities. Children can develop different skills, find sports they enjoy and learn important values including determination, respect and working as part of a team.

At St Joseph’s, we also give the children many opportunities to represent our school across various inter competitions against/with other schools in the local area. The Pendle School Partnership arranges sports competitions between schools in Pendle.  These include cricket, netball, football (for both girls and boys, table tennis, dodgeball, crown green bowling, swimming and athletics. These competitive events are alongside other sporting events, ensuring inclusivity for all children, no matter their ability.

This year we have achieved the Gold School Games award, demonstrating our commitment and engagement to sport at our school.
